Description

We are offering this wonderful example of an antique Albany Slip Jug. We were told it was a 1/2 gallon size and that it probably came from the 1870's. It has a beautiful, deep brown glaze and has what we have found to be called the beehive style or shape.

There are no markings as to who made it or when exactly when it was made.

This would be a great piece of American history to use to display in your home or add to your collection, or gift it to someone who has that rustic home decor.

Measurements

The jug stands almost 7 inches tall (measured from the inside). The spout is about 2 1/4 inches from the tip of the spout to the other side. The base is about 5 inches in diameter. There is no mark on the bottom. The bottom is swirled with the brown glaze.

Condition

The one issue this piece has is that there is damage to the spout/pourer. We've taken a photo of the area and please use the zoom tool to get a closer look. We are unable to find any other major chips or cracks. The handle is in excellent condition and appears to be well attached and can be still used to carry the jug. If this piece of primitive Americana was made in the 1870's, it is over 140 years old!

Despite the flaw it has on the spout, this is a great piece of handmade, primitive Americana pottery.
