This is a very elegant fine china soup tureen and lid with a gentle scalloped edging that was produced by Seltmann in Weiden Germany. It is the Marie Luise pattern of china. The tureen is white china with gold trim around all the edges, including the handles. The lid has an intricate gold design around the handle.
There is a backstamp on the bottom that shows a crown, Marie Luise, Seltmann, Weiden Germany. Weiden is in the Bavarian part of Germany.
Please see the photos for more detail.
We don't know when exactly this piece was made, however we purchased this set at an estate sale that had other older china sets.
There is a simple elegance to this piece and is a fine example of the china that the Seltmann company produced.
We believe this is a 2 3/4 quart size soup tureen. The base measures approximately 5 1/4 inches in diameter. The opening is approximately 8 3/4 inches in diameter. From handle to handle is about 12 1/2 inches. The tureen has a depth of approximately 3 1/2 inches.
This beautiful tureen is in excellent vintage condition. There is minimal wear on the base. There is very little wear on the delicate gold trim. There are no chips, cracks or crazing.
